About Nexus

"What is Nexus MUX?" I have been asked when talking about my latest MU* project. In a nutshell, it can be defined or described as:

…an experiment experience in interactive storytelling via multi-player text-based role-play.

That's the best way I can explain it. More simply, it's a MUX where you can create whatever characters you want, whatever world and themes you want and run whatever stories you want; and if you don't like it after you've started to run with it, you can stop, toss it and start up something else.

On Nexus, there are a couple of mini grids already built where players have elaborate storylines started, but there are also 'multipurpose rooms' which can be temporarily described and used for one-off experiment scenes.

Currently, our most stable and prolific setting is Harry Potter, though there are many others including Twisted Fairytales, Twilight (by Stephenie Meyer), Terminator, World of Darkness, Buffy & Angel, His Dark Materials, The Great War and many other games in the works. As several of us are from X-Men: Retribution MUSH, we were also indulging in some "What Ifs" based on characters from that MUSH, apart from our XMR storylines.

Character generation on Nexus is entirely optional. We have one. Paradigm of XMR was kind enough to donate the XMR chargen code to us for our use. It is based on not stats, but descriptive statements which explain what your character can and cannot do, their backgrounds, their strengths, their weaknesses, etc. There is a 'powers' section, which may not be appropriate in all cases, but for example, could be utilized to track what spells students have mastered in the Harry Potter setting, if they so desired. These +char sheets are used more as reminders to the players themselves what they may have already established.

Interested in playing? Currently, Nexus is considered a "private game", which means you have to get invited. You have to know one of the players to request to join or to be invited over, then it has to be okayed by either Rhapsody, Soho or myself. If we decide to open it up, we'll make that announcement here and/or on Gateway MUX (formerly Online Gaming Resource MUX). (You can contact Siobhan on Gateway, though don't expect an answer right away if you choose to @mail. Use the email in her +finger for a faster response.)
