His Dark Materials
About His Dark Materials
His Dark Materials is based upon the trilogy of books by Philip Pullman: The Golden Compass (known as Northern Lights in the UK), The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. The Golden Compass was released as a movie by New Line.
For our purposes, we are set actually a few generations before the events that take place in the books, so we use the world of the books, but not the plot. I've created a cheat sheet of the basics of the world, so people do not need to have read the books or even seen the movie to join us.
