Building Rules
So you'd like to create your own space on the grid…great! However, before you go all @dig-happy, there are a few things you'll need to know about building here.
Floating rooms are not permitted. A floating room is a room which is not attached to the grid. All rooms must be attached to the grid and approved (see point 2). (That's about it, really)
Note: Floating and unapproved rooms discovered by staff may be subject to being linked back to the Building Nexus and set OOC or even being destroyed, depending on the situation.
Note #2: RP should probably not happen in the Building Nexus if it can be helped. Just snag a multipurpose room if you're not done building your space and it's not on the grid yet.

Planning Your Building Project
Okay, let's talk about planning. First, consider what it is that you want to build; even draw out a quick map of it. Remember that a room costs one @quota and a "door" is made of two exits (one going into the room and one going back out in the opposite direction), costing one @quota each. So, one room with a door costs 3 @quota. Next, check your @quota and see if you have enough for your project. If not, you'll need to request @quota as well as a space to build from (just check in with Rhapsody or Vanth about this).
Remember not to count rooms like bathrooms, closets, outhouses, kitchens, etc. unless you plan on RPing in them or they are needed to keep a logical layout (like with hallways). Also, remember that a 100-room hotel might be fine if you have the resources, but not all the floors (let alone rooms) need to be created. Just build enough to give the impression of the space and still have enough room for RP. It's all a delicate balance. Do not be surprised if staff cut back on your requested rooms just to conserve the DB space. (Not that we're -really- worried about DB bloat at this point!)

Building Applications
So how do you apply? Just @mail *staff explaining what you would like to build, how many rooms and how much @quota in total you will need, as well as where on the grid you would be interested in having it linked. Or if Vanth or Rhapsody are around, just poke one of us and we'll set you up.
Depending on RL circumstances, please expect a response within 2-3 days regarding your application if it's @mailed. Expected delays will be publicly posted, so please watch for such announcements. If staff have questions or concerns regarding your application, they will ask for clarification/a response before approving or denying it.
Where It Goes…
Providing your application is approved, a space will be opened for you either in the Building Nexus (in the case of new grids, likely) or on an existing grid (or in the game OOC nexus) and you will be notified via @mail or paged.
Once your building project is finished (@descs, exit attributes, places, +views, etc. — please also see the 'Building Conventions' object for more on these), please look it over for spelling and grammatical errors. final approval of projects will be delayed by such errors and staff will not fix typos and spelling/grammatical errors. Though we would love to be able to offer an editing service, we simply do not have the manpower/time to do so.
Inspections?
Unlike other games, we're not going to inspect your building projects. If you're building an area to attach to someone else's game, that game lead might decide to have a look at it to make sure that it works for their grid, but other than that, Nexus MUX staff will not be inspecting. If you've had a space opened in the Building Nexus, just page one of us or @mail *staff to ask us to link it. Remember to tell us what game and what room the building project is to be linked to in that game (and that you have permission from the game lead to link to their project). If you've had a new game dug out for you, just go nuts!
Zones
If your game makes use of zones, pleas let the staff know so we know to change your room(s) to the appropriate zone. If you're not sure, ask the game lead or check the local game help files to see if there is a +zone/here command. If you dig more rooms off of that, please remember to give us the heads up or use the +zone/here command where available.
Why do we ask this? If your room isn't zoned properly, you won't have access to the game-specific code the game leads might have set up in that area while you are in your room(s). By changing the zone, this enables that code suite to be available in any of your own rooms, just as it would be throughout the rest of the game.
