Roleplay is what you make it here at Nexus MUX; however, there are a few things which should be pointed out about roleplaying etiquette. Most of these don't likely need to be said, but they're posted for posterity's sake.
Take Time To Read
Read the descriptions of rooms to get an idea of what the area is like. A room may represent a hallway or a small closet, or it may represent a vast space, such as a lake, a forest or even open space where skiffs may fly between levels of the city. It's not advisable to enter a room and assume your character will be standing next to whomever else may be in there.
Response Time
Give people time to respond. Not everyone types at the same speed as you.
Communicate
Remember to keep OOC communication lines open between yourself and others to ensure everyone is still OOCly comfortable with what's going on in a scene. Warn people if RP is heading down a darker road and ask if anyone needs an FTB.
Ask Before Joining
OOCly ask people if you may join a scene in progress before doing so and respect others' wishes if they ask that you do -not- join the scene. If people are in a public space, it's still polite to ask first.
Have Some Cheese With That Whine…
If you're not taking your character onto the public IC grid and not making the effort to seek out RP, please don't complain about how you can't get RP. If you have made the effort and still have trouble, ask staff to help you out. We have ways of getting folks involved. ;)
Speel Thins Rite
Watch your spelling, typos, use of capitals, punctuation, etc. Don't use emoticons in RP poses.
Spam, Spam, Spam… Shut Up! Bloody Vikings!
Don't spam people. Most folks don't like it.
Pose Orders
Don't pose-jump. What does this mean? When in a scene, wait your turn to pose. Don't pose out of turn. Don't pose after every single person's pose to react to them. Say there are four people in the scene and you posed as person #4 in the first round — you should wait till the other three people pose in round two before you pose again. Three-pose rule, however, can be adopted in larger scenes.
Meta-Posing Is Bad, Mmmkay?
Posing for others is bad. People play characters to be in control of their actions. Don't write in your pose how someone reacts, what they should think about your character, etc. Just pose for your character. The same should be said for @descs, too.
There are other suggestions that could be made, but this is a start. Bottom line is to use common sense and be courteous while RPing. For more information about RP etiquette, ask staff to point you toward some web articles on the subject.
