R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Show respect for other players, guests, staff and even the MUX itself. No bickering, defaming, fighting, harassing, spamming, taunting, baiting or otherwise being crass/rude to others. Keep things civil, please.
Only mess with your own things.
Hacking, stealing, tampering with, breaking or otherwise messing around with objects, rooms, exits, player objects, code, etc. which do not belong to you (without permission) is strictly prohibited.
Be an adult.
Sure, most folks here will likely be 18 here; please remember to act as such.
IC/OOC Separation.
This isn't an OOC Masquerade or the like. This means not to take things personally that happen ICly to your character, not to assume that if a character is a jerk ICly that they are OOCly as well and to certainly not take OOC information and use it ICly without first finding a means to find out ICly.
No spying.
Using robots, code, puppets, alts, etc. to spy on others' conversations, scenes, factions, etc. is also strictly prohibited. If you want to watch a scene, just ask the players and respect their wishes.
Respect others' privacy.
While a MUX is certainly not a private/secure forum, players have a right to protect their personal information. Share your own info at your own risk. Others' info should /not/ be shared without their permission (this includes but is not limited to real names, addresses, email, IP/host addresses, IM names, etc.).
Building Faux Pas: No floating rooms.
If you do not have building privileges, @mail *staff or page Vanth or Rhapsody to ask for a space to be opened and a rough estimate on how much quota you would like. See also 'news building'.
Staff = The Authorities.
The staff here enforce the rules, with or without a filed complaint. In many cases, they probably wrote the rules. So, rules lawyering and bickering with the staff regarding rules/judgments are unacceptable. If you wish to appeal a decision, you may do so /once/ — read 'news judgments' for more.
Cursing, swearing, etc.
While this is a MUX that may present mature themes in roleplay such as violence, sex and drugs, and swearing may be a part of that realism in the IC world. OOCly, so long as it doesn't become horribly offensive, we're not going to slap you for it.
Keep sanctions private, please.
Public airing of your displeasure of warnings, rulings or punishments handed to you by staff is strictly prohibited. These are to be kept between you and staff. If you decide to talk to a third party privately about it, that is your business, but if we find that you are using it to coerce others to become discontented with the game, disrespectful toward the staff, leave the game, etc., you may find yourself with worse punishments, including temporary or permanent bans from privileges or the game itself. If you have issues with these sorts of things, submit an appeal or keep your lip buttoned, please. Thank you.
Illegal Activities.
Not much has to be said about this topic other than this: if individuals are found to be using the MUX for illegal purposes, they will be removed, banned and reported to the appropriate authorities. We can't list all such activities, but the big ones to avoid are: the production or distribution of child pornography, dealing drugs, any form of harassment or stalking, distribution or production of warez, malware, etc., and more.
We cannot possibly list all of the potential unacceptable behaviours and situations that might crop up, but this a good start and covers a lot of common problem areas. Ultimately, the rule of thumb is that if someone gets offended by something you do or say, it's best to show respect and stop what you're doing; or ask staff to clarify whether or not it's permissible. (And chances are, if you have to ask, it's likely inappropriate.)
