Introduction

Daniel Jackson: "We've gotten closer and closer to finding the location of the Lost City but it turns out we've been looking in the wrong place all along." (He walks over to a whiteboard on which are drawn six Stargate coordinates with the numbers 1-6 above them.) "Now, we thought we had a Stargate address — six symbols representing coordinates in space that determine the location of the planet the Ancients went to after they left Antarctica. Now, recently we determined a seventh symbol." (He picks up a pen and draws the symbol representing Earth on the board to the right of the other symbols.)

Dr. Weir: "The point of origin, Earth."

Daniel: "That's not it."

Dr. McKay: "Then your address must be incorrect."

Daniel: "Not incorrect… incomplete." (He draws another symbol in between the sixth symbol and the Earth symbol.)

Weir: "What are you saying, Doctor Jackson?"

(Daniel numbers the newest symbol 7 and the Earth symbol 8.)

Daniel: "It's an eight symbol address. What we're looking for may be further away than we ever imagined, but it's not out of reach."

McKay: "Atlantis!"

Daniel: "Atlantis. I think we can go there…"

Theme

A "Stargate" is an alien, ring-shaped device which can be found on many planets (some in orbit over a planet) throughout the universe. It creates a wormhole between itself and another Stargate some distance away. One needs to know the address of the sister Stargate to 'dial' it, utilizing a series of seven pictographs which resemble hieroglyphs. The one on Earth is currently under control of the government of the United States and is hidden in a secret, underground military facility.

In the past, many different alien creatures used the Stargate to visit earth, most having good intentions (such as the Asgard) but a few, such as the Goa'uld, used it for their own gain. Some of the alien cultures which have visited Earth in the past have taken on godly personas or identities, such as Thor and Loki from the Asgard, or Ra and Osiris of the Goa'uld. Even the Ancients — an ancient race who previously inhabited Atlantis while it was still on Earth and have since Ascended (into energy-based lifeforms) - had names from Earthen legends, such as Morgan le Fey and Merlin.

Essentially, we're starting near the beginning of Season One, just after the first Wraith encounter, and then running with the theme and storyline how we want to run with it. All characters may be created an introduced at any time, even people who supposedly replace each other. Vanth is more than willing to work with people to work their characters in where there might be canon/continuity issues. We're running with our own storyline, our own alternate universe, so we get to do what we want!

The Stargate program has been run by the U.S. military for years in secret and out of the public eye. Here is some information on both Atlantis and Stargate Command (SGC, housed on earth):

Character Continuity

Character Continuity

Although we're starting in Season One, this will not eliminate characters such as Ronon, Dr. Keller, Carter, O'Neill, etc. If you want to play any characters who do not appear until later seasons, well, that's okay! Chat with the other players or chat with Vanth and we'll figure out a way to "fudge it" to make the character fit.

For example, Vanth is playing Dr. Keller as Chief of Medicine for the time being. If someone were to, say, decide to take on the character of Dr. Beckett, Vanth has said she'd be willing to have Dr. Keller, in character, step down as Chief — and has already figured out a way to do so ICly.

Carter and Woolsey might be more difficult to work in, but if anyone has their heart set on playing either of these characters instead of Weir, we will work it out. Right now, Weir is currently in charge and will be NPC'd until we get someone taking her on or one of the other Commanders mentioned.

Stargate: SG1 characters are also very welcome, though this is an Atlantis game. If the game expands enough, we might be able to expand it to include Stargate Command on Earth. But in the meantime, if you're interested in playing someone from SG1, just let us know and we'll work with you, again, to figure out how they got to Atlantis considering the Atlantis Expedition doesn't have enough powered ZPM's to dial home to Earth.
